Our Story

1980’s

Sam Barshop and C. Patrick Oles, Jr. forge their relationship. C.P. Oles Company is involved in several prominent Austin real estate projects with an emphasis on neighborhood and specialty shopping centers.  Barshop Enterprises, Inc., a leader in the San Antonio market since 1980, develops and manages a broad portfolio of award-winning industrial, retail, and master-planned land developments.

1990’s

Home of H-E-B’s first “Central Market,” Central Park is developed in Austin. 

Several retail assets are acquired including 26 Doors and Pecan Square in Austin, and The Colonnade and Sunset Ridge in San Antonio. 

1995

Barshop & Oles Company is officially formed when C.P. Oles Company of Austin and Barshop Enterprises, Inc. of San Antonio merge operations.


1996

Phase I of Northwoods Shopping Center, anchored by H-E-B and Stein Mart, is developed in San Antonio.

1998

Phase II of Northwoods Shopping Center is developed, anchored by Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Old Navy, and Regal Cinemas.

1998

The H-E-B – anchored Four Points Centre is developed in Austin.

2000

Village at Blanco, anchored by H-E-B, is developed in San Antonio.


2001

Westgate Marketplace, anchored by H-E-B, is developed in Houston.


2002

Phase III of Northwoods Shopping Center, anchored by Marshalls and Bed Bath & Beyond, is developed.

Phase IV of Northwoods Shopping Center, anchored by Academy Sports + Outdoors and Kohl’s Department Stores, is developed.

2003

Whitestone Market, anchored by H-E-B, is developed in Austin.

2006

Kyle Marketplace, anchored by H-E-B, is developed in Kyle.

2007

Potranco Village, anchored by Academy Sports + Outdoors and LA Fitness, is developed in San Antonio. 

2008

Brodie Oaks Shopping Center and Brodie Oaks Professional Plaza in Austin are acquired.

2010

Westpointe Village, anchored by H-E-B, is developed in New Braunfels.

2012

Lakeline Market, anchored by H-E-B, is developed in Austin.

2013

University Common, anchored by H-E-B, is developed in Round Rock.

2016

Brodie Oaks Shopping Center and Brodie Oaks Professional Plaza in Austin are sold and recapitalized with a new partner. The project is slated for redevelopment.

2018

The Toys R Us land and building located within the Brodie Oaks Shopping Center are acquired.  This key component of the project is necessary to formally commence the re-development process.

2019

The Company’s retail, office, and master-planned development portfolio under management tops 3 million square feet.

2020

The Oaks at Slaughter shopping center, anchored by H-E-B, is developed in Austin. 

2021

Bar W Marketplace, anchored by H-E-B, is developed in Leander.

2022

The entitlement process for the redeveloped Brodie is underway with a rezoning application currently being reviewed.

2022

La Cantera Crossing in San Antonio is prepared for development. 

2022

Several new projects are added to the Company’s development pipeline.
