Construction began Thursday at the Westpointe Village shopping center — soon to be home to the city’s second H-E-B. Perched on the southwest corner of Loop 337 and State Highway 46, developers said the future grocery store and retail center could welcome shoppers by late summer or early fall 2010. We are really excited about the project,” said Wade McGinnis, vice president of shopping center developer Barshop and Oles. “We really see it as a regional store that’s going to benefit not only New Braunfels, but also people in western Comal County.”

Development firm Barshop & Oles has begun work on its latest retail project.

Known as WestPointe Village, the project will span 50 acres of land at State Highway 46 and Loop 337 in the city of New Braunfels, which is located just north of San Antonio.

Phase one of WestPointe will encompass upwards of 124,000 square feet — including a new 88,000-square-foot grocery store by H.E. Butt Grocery Co. (H-E-B).

The roughly 244,000-square-foot Brodie Oaks Shopping Center in South Austin has changed hands.

Weingarten Realty Investors (NYSE: WRI) of Houston sold the retail complex on the northeast corner of Capital of Texas Highway and South Lamar Boulevard to a joint venture partnership comprised of Dallas-based L&B Realty Advisors LLP and Barshop & Oles Co. of Austin. The purchase price was not disclosed.
